“Pothead” smart planter

Pothead is an interactive planter designed to keep house plants alive and well. The happy, neutral, and sad emotions correlate to the overall plant’s soil condition. Users can wave their hands to be notified of the soil condition in more detail. They can also press the button to play Pothead’s favorite song.

This is a group project. My teammate and I brainstormed the overall design of the planter. We tried to create a friendly and playful interactive plant sitter. I focused on the interactive components (Arduino), and my teammate focused on the 3D printing.

Challenge

This is the first time I have worked with Arduino, and it was a big challenge for both of us. However, we were both happy with the result, if we have more time we would conduct user testing to validate our design and build a completed model. We definitely learned a lot from this project and were able to manage it in a short amount of time.
